Don’t forget to join us this Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m. for the Grand Opening of Nathaniel Jones Park! Festivities will include a deejay, dancing, arts and crafts, scavenger hunt, petting zoo, pony rides, booths and other activities highlighting the new park. Several food vendors will sell hamburgers, hot dogs, funnel cakes and other cool treats.
There will be an official ribbon cutting ceremony at 4 p.m., and the celebration will include a Summer Splash event! Summer Splash fun will include five inflatables, including a 55-foot water slide, misting arches and bounce houses, and the Nathaniel Jones Park Splash Pad will be turned on for the first time. Make sure to bring your favorite water-blasters and super-soakers, because this free event features a water fight inside the Squirt Gun Fight Tent. Housed inside the tent, participants will make use of the obstacle field littered with barrels to crawl through and hide behind to avoid water attacks by family and friends.
In keeping with Mountain’s Edge’s tradition of honoring early Las Vegas Valley pioneers, the park is named for the supervisor of one of the region’s first large-scale projects. When lead and silver reserves were discovered at nearby Potosi Mountain, Nathaniel Jones was sent by Brigham Young to oversee a mining operation in conjunction with the creation of a nearby Mormon outpost and fort in 1855.
The new park, located at 8800 Sparkling Chandon Dr., will feature a splash pad, large turf areas, a lighted basketball court, tot lots with shade structures, and walking trails.
