RECAP – Take Steps for Crohn’s & Colitis Community Walk

Several hundred people came together on Saturday to raise funds and support those with painful and uncomfortable digestive diseases at the Take Steps for Crohn’s & Colitis Community Walk at Exploration Park at the Mountain’s Edge Master Planned Community. More than the $40,000 goal was raised for research and support programs for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Prizes were awarded to top fundraisers which included:
- Ronnie Grower, Top Individual Fundraiser with more than $8,000
- Ben’s Creepers, Top Friends and Family Team with more than $4,500
This team was named for the event’s Honored Hero, 10-year-old Ben Etter, whose favorite game is Minecraft. Ben was diagnosed with Crohn’ disease when he was 6.

- Team Fink, Top New Team with more than $1,000
In addition to the leisurely stroll through Exploration Park, Take Steps activities included live music, food tent, raffle with great prizes, vendor booths, wellness area, educational materials and a Kids Zone with a bounce house, face painting, balloon artist, and games. Plus the 80-acre park offers an Old Western village, Native American play structures, archeological dig area, splash pad, picnic areas, and the 2,846-foot-tall Exploration Peak with walking, hiking and cycling trails and panoramic views of the Las Vegas Valley.

82 cents of every dollar goes directly toward research – specifically pediatric research – and other programs to help those with digestive diseases. Also, the Take Steps event sends several Nevada campers to CCFA camp in Shady Brook, Col., and a free education event this fall for Nevada residents.
- $25 – Stock a gastroenterology office with informational brochures
to educate newly diagnosed IBD patients
- $50 – Support training for volunteers to start new support groups in their community
- $100 – Fund a month of IBD Help Center translation services for all patients
- $200 – Support 1 day of life-changing fun and support for a Camp Oasis camper
- $500 – Cover 6 months of online chat support with information specialists
